Why China is Beating the US (And How to Profit From it)

On today’s Spark we have…

According to CNBC on March 16, 2025, China is outspending the U.S. on fusion energy—with more than twice the budget and faster project development—to secure the power that will run the AI engines of tomorrow

“The only working fusion power plants right now in the universe are stars,” said Dennis Whyte, professor of nuclear science and engineering at Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

But why does this matter? Well…

  • Fusion, called the “holy grail of energy”, is the #1 source of limitless and clean energy where the companies like Amazon, Meta, and Google are putting a significant bet for the future.

  • Thus, who controls fusion will also control future cloud computing, next-gen semiconductors and (are you ready?) artificial intelligence.

“If you care about AI, if you care about energy leadership … you have to make investments into fusion,” FIA CEO Andrew Holland said. “This is something that if the United States doesn’t lead on, then China will.”

You don’t need to research a lot to find out that the US is moving slower next to China, regarding nuclear research. The U.S private sector remains in the lead. Of the $8 billion in private research over nuclear fusion, $6 billion are from the U.S. But when it comes to public funding, China is way ahead.

Anually, China is investing over $1.5 billion dollars on nuclear fusion, while the U.S averages to invest $800 million

What this means for investors?

Don’t get caught investing solely in uranium-mining or solar energy. Fusion is a hidden field where the best moment to invest is now.

Start tracking:

  • Commonwealth Fusion Systems (CFS): backed by MIT, aiming first commercial plant by 2030

  • TAE Technologies: working on advanced hydrogen-boron reactors, with an aggressive 2030 prototype goal

  • Helion Energy Inc.: one of the most promising projects on fusion in the U.S, where the biggets companies are bidding today

What is coming…

This Sunday, I’ll break down on the next message:

  1. Which fusion players are showing real promise and why

  2. What topics you should have a knowledge as an investor of to get a headstart over the rest

  3. What amount (how much you should be willing to invest) makes sense to position yourself now

Your takeaway for now

Energy is about power, and that includes technological dominance

China is not only investing, it is sprinting towards the future

Will you be part of that future?

See you at Sunday for The Fuel
